A test strategy for a real product
Proves: You can think, not just execute.
Pick an app you actually use and write the test strategy for it — scope, risks, what you'd automate vs. explore, and why. This is the single artifact that separates people who 'know testing' from people who can be trusted with a product.
An automation project in a real repo
Proves: You can build, and your code is readable.
A public GitHub repo with a small, honest automation suite against a real or demo app — clear structure, a README that explains your choices, and green CI. Not a tutorial clone. Something a reviewer can open and immediately understand.
An exploratory session, published
Proves: You can find what scripted tests miss.
Run a timeboxed exploratory session on a live app, take notes as you go, and publish the findings — charter, what you tried, what you found. It shows judgement and curiosity, the two things automation can't fake.
Bug reports worth reading
Proves: You can communicate under pressure.
Two or three exceptional bug reports: crisp title, clean repro, expected vs. actual, severity reasoning, and evidence. Most testers write forgettable tickets. A great report is proof you'll make a whole team faster.
Evidence that AI is in your workflow
Proves: You test the way teams work in 2026.
Show, don't tell: the prompts you used to generate test ideas, the cases AI drafted and how you corrected them, where you kept a human in the loop. 'I use AI well' is the line every interviewer wants to hear — this is how you back it up.
